Community Spotlight: Sage Creek

Moving to a new area of the city can seem overwhelming, especially if you don’t know anyone around you just yet. The Sage Creek neighborhood has expanded immensely over the last few years and has introduced everything from a dance studio to restaurants to shopping and a medical facility – just to name a few.

Here, you’ll find a complete guide to the Sage Creek neighborhood.

If you are a foodie, then you have moved to the right place. Sage Creek is home to many local restaurants and chain restaurants serving all kinds of menu items. Tasting local cuisine is a fun activity to do in Winnipeg with your friends and Sage Creek has a few options for you to try:

Empty Cup Collective

This local coffee shop is more than just a coffee shop. It is your perfect lunch spot destination – enjoy a variety of sandwiches, bowls, pizzas, and baked goods. Or stop by during its happy hours for a beer or a glass of wine.

Block & Blade Restaurant & Bar

A local restaurant focused on using local ingredients – can it get much better than that? B&B serves a variety of menu items that accommodates everyone including vegetarians/vegans and don’t forget to join it for happy hour (their cocktails are fantastic!)

Za Pizza Bistro

It’s the Subway of pizza – you get to customize everything including your dough, sauce, cheese, and toppings. Za serves more than just pizza, be sure to try its wings and especially the desserts.

Charito Bakery

While it may not be local, it is the first and only in Canada. This Ecuadorian bakery was established in 1978 and everything is baked fresh in-house serving all kinds of menu items from European to American and more.

It doesn’t stop there – some more local favorites coming soon to Sage Creek are Santa Lucia Pizza and Banana Boat! Santa Lucia Pizza is a local favorite for Italian and/or Greek food. Banana Boat will satisfy that sweet tooth of yours with its large selection of ice cream and desserts!

It wouldn’t be a community without a few chain restaurants that we all know and love such as McDonald’s, Subway, Pizza Pizza, Tim Hortons, Mary Brown’s Chicken & Taters, Freshii, Edo Japan, and coming soon is Dominos!

Sage Creek is equipped with everything you need to get your after-work errands done. Stop at Sobeys for all your grocery needs or their fresh market section. Pick up your toiletries or those last-minute items you forgot during your shopping trip at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Don’t forget about your fur babies! Grab all the necessities (and fun treats) at Pet Valu. Head into Dollarama to pick up some fun activities for the kids (or yourself) and check out their seasonal décor section. Head over to The Joint to see what’s new this week. Finally, if you’re hosting a gathering soon don’t forget to stop by the Liquor Mart. Even though the gas prices are soaring – you can fill up at the Shell Gas Station. There’s even more on the way! Stay tuned.

The Sage Creek Village has all your service needs. Enroll the kids in dance at Marquis Dance Academy, head over to Orangetheory Fitness or 9Round Fitness to get a workout in, and get your nails done at Madam’s Nail Spa. The whole family can get their hair done at Tommy Gun’s Barber Shop and Von Riesen Hair Co. There’s also an animal hospital, eye center, massage therapy, medical center, two physiotherapists, and two dental centers. Get all your banking and insurance needs at RBC Royal Bank or TD Canada Trust and Wyatt Dowling Insurance or La Salle Insurance.

Beyond its kilometers of retail space, Sage Creek has over nine kilometers of trails to go for a nice walk with the entire family. These trails were constructed with crushed limestone, which creates shock absorption for running and walking and doesn’t reflect as much heat to make it cooler for your pets. The Nature Trail features a variety of activities along the way including log-to-log lunges, stepping stones, and a willow tunnel.

Along your routes, you’ll come across multiple playgrounds where each one is different and some even offer exercise equipment for adults/teens. Parc Ron Duhamel Park is the perfect spot for outdoor activities such as a toboggan slide in the winter, sports such as basketball and baseball, and multiple events such as a Canada Day Celebration and Movie Night in the Park.
